Asian Restored Classics 2017 - Lost and Found Gems

Regarded as the holy grail of Thai cinema, Santi-Vina was Thailand’s first film to compete and garner critical international recognition. Lost and found after 60 years, Santi-Vina is the first Thai film to be screened at Cannes Classics in 2016.

Screened only once in 1990 before its recovery, The Nights of Zayandeh-Rood was partially destroyed, completely banned, then stolen and smuggled out of Iran for a second life. Mohsen Makhmalbaf’s eighth film opened the Venice Classics strand of the 73rd Venice International Film Festival in 2016.

Join Sanchai Chotirosseranee from the Thai Film Archive and Iranian director Mohsen Makhmalbaf via Skype as they share about their journeys in searching, recovering and restoring these long-lost films of their countries.
